Search the Wyoming Secretary of State Database

Search the Wyoming Secretary of State's business database at https://wyobiz.wyo.gov/Business/FilingSearch.aspx. Enter your proposed LLC name to confirm it's distinguishable from existing filings. Your name must include a required designator—LLC, L.L.C., Limited Liability Company, Limited Company, LC, L.C., Ltd. Liability Company, Ltd. Liability Co., or Limited Liability Co.—and be distinguishable upon the Secretary of State's records under W.S. 17-16-401. The search is free and available 24/7.

Wyoming has no restricted words list under Wyo. Stat. § 17-29-108, so most names are permissible if they meet the distinguishability requirement. The online search tool displays any existing businesses with identical or confusingly similar names.

Reserve Your Name (Optional)

Once you confirm availability, you can reserve the name for 120 days by filing a Name Reservation request with the Wyoming Secretary of State. The reservation fee is $60.00. File online at https://wyobiz.wyo.gov/Business/Default.aspx or contact the Secretary of State's office at (307) 777-7311.

A name reservation protects your chosen name while you prepare your Articles of Organization. You must file your LLC formation documents before the 120-day reservation expires.

Operating Under a Different Name

If you plan to operate under a name different from your LLC's legal name, file a trade name registration (DBA) with the Wyoming Secretary of State for a $100.00 fee. This is a separate filing from your LLC formation.
