How to Get an EIN for Your Wyoming LLC
An EIN is issued by the IRS, not Wyoming. File Form SS-4 online at irs.gov, by phone at (800) 829-4933, or by mail. Online applications receive your EIN immediately. You can apply before or after filing your Wyoming Articles of Organization (Wyo. Stat. § 17-29-201). No fee required.
Apply for Your EIN with the IRS
Online (fastest): Visit irs.gov and complete Form SS-4 electronically. You'll receive your EIN instantly. Have your LLC's legal name, principal business address, and Social Security Number of a responsible party ready.
By phone: Call (800) 829-4933, Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. your local time. The IRS will issue your EIN during the call.
By mail or fax: Submit Form SS-4 to the IRS. Fax processing takes 4 business days; mail takes up to 2 weeks.
Form Your Wyoming LLC First (Recommended)
File your Articles of Organization with the Wyoming Secretary of State at https://wyobiz.wyo.gov/ or mail to Herschler Building East, Suite 101, 122 W 25th Street, Cheyenne, WY 82002-0020 (Wyo. Stat. § 17-29-203). The $100 filing fee applies. Your LLC name must include a required designator (LLC, Limited Liability Company, LC, etc.). Processing takes up to 15 business days for paper filings; online filing is faster.
You don't need Wyoming approval before applying for an EIN—the IRS accepts applications immediately. However, most business owners form their LLC first, then apply for the EIN.
